This Ordinance estimates revenue and appropriates funds in the amount of $14,814,859.50 in the General Grants Fund for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program from the U.S. Department of the Treasury to assist households that are unable to pay rent and utilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic; and authorizing the Director of Neighborhoods and Housing Services Department to execute contracts for Emergency Rental Assistance activities.
KC Regional Housing Alliance supports this ordinance and expects it to pass. We do however reference this ordinance as an alternative to Ordinance No. 210055. This ordinance gets the rent paid and eliminates the need for evictions, which in turn eliminates the need to ban eviction records from being used to screen potential renters.
This ordinance is on the agenda for the Neighborhood Planning and Development Committee of the City Council of Kansas City, Missouri for Wednesday, January 27th, 2021 at 1:30 PM.
